About the exhibition

Batagianni Gallery presents a unit of Adriana Verveti works entitled “ The (W)hole New History of Art”, which consists of Chinese ink drawings.

In this unit, the artist “adapts” works that History of Art has established for ever. On these works, persons of authority of their time are depicted, which we could consider as models of their role today. She presents them in intact clothes, but their flesh is in a state of advanced decay, although they are alive and fully aware of their power and position. In this context, despite their corrosion, these people maintain utterly their corrosive power. Adriana Verveti presents sovereigns, clergymen, judges, capitalists, Press powerful men and others of this kind who know how to keep dark ties among them, in order to be ready at any moment to exert organized pressure on those that they should defend and protect. This condition of stagnation, they impose on the people they dominate, nullifies the promoted illusion that the world is changing.
